Homemade Swedish Meatballs with Sauce

These delicious Swedish meatballs are a classic comfort food that is easy to make and perfect for a cozy winter dinner.

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground ​beef Added to
  • 1 lb ground pork Added to
  • 12 onion Added to
  • 1 egg Added to
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Added to

  • 14 teaspoon ground nutmeg Added to
  • 14 teaspoon allspice Added to

For the gravy:

  • 2 tbls butter Added to
  • 2 tbls all-purpose flour Added to
  • 2 cups beef broth Added to
  • 12 Cup heavy cream Added to
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Added to
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Added to

For serving:

  • Mashed potatoes or cauliflower rice Added to

1. Step

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, onion, egg, garlic, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and all-spice. Mix well.

2. Step

Shape the meat mixture into small balls.

3. Step

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet, and brown on all sides.

4. Step

Reduce the heat to medium and continue to cook the meatballs until they are cooked through and no longer pink in the center.

Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

6. Step

In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk flour in and cook for 1 minute until lightly browned.

7. Step

Slowly whisk in beef broth, then heavy cream and soy sauce. Continue to cook, whisking constantly.

8. Step

Season gravy with salt, pepper, and taste.

9. Step

Return the balls to the skillet with the gravy and simmer for 5-10 minutes, until the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is bubbly.

Serve the Swedish meatballs over a bed of mashed potatoes or cauliflower rice, and enjoy!
