Homemade marzipan

Marzipan is a favorite treat all over the world, especially in Germany where my grandmother always prepared homemade marzipan for us. This simple recipe is the very one I have been using to make marzipan for my family and friends for years. It has also helped me to relive the sweet taste of my childhood.

Directions

1. Step

To make your own marzipan, first mix the ground almonds and powdered sugar in a large bowl. Make sure you mix them well, as this will ensure that the sweetness is evenly distributed.

2. Step

Add the rose water and almond flavoring. These liquids give the marzipan its special flavor. But be careful, add them drop by drop and keep tasting to make sure it doesn't taste too strong.

3. Step

Add the egg white and work everything into a smooth mixture. The egg whites are used to hold everything together, so knead well until it is no longer sticky. If it is still sticky, you could add a little more ground almonds.

4. Step

Pour the mixture onto a work surface dusted with powdered sugar and shape into the desired form with your hands. Let your imagination run wild when shaping! My children love shaping marzipan figures.

5. Step

Wrap the marzipan in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for at least an hour. This helps to intensify the flavor and firm up the mixture.

6. Step

I hope you enjoy this delicious homemade marzipan as much as me and my family always do. It really is the perfect gift for any occasion or just a sweet treat for in between.
