Directions
Start by sifting the all-purpose flour and cocoa powder together into a large bowl. Sifting helps to get rid of any lumps in the flour and cocoa powder, giving your waffle cones a smoother texture.
Add sugar and salt to the sifted mixture and combine well.
In a different bowl, whisk two large eggs until frothy then add in the cooled melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract and whisk again. It's essential to cool down the melted butter to prevent the eggs from cooking upon contact.
Gradually add this egg mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until a smooth batter forms. Let the batter rest for 15 minutes. The batter might seem too thick, but that's just perfect for making dense and crisp waffle cones.
Preheat your waffle cone maker as per its instructions. Once heated, scoop about 2 tablespoons of batter onto the centre of the heated maker and close the lid tightly. Cook until the waffle is crispy, it usually takes around 1-2 minutes, but timings may vary according to different waffle cone makers.
Remove the cooked waffle instantly using a spatula and quickly wrap it around your cone-shaped mold while it's still hot. Be careful during this process as the waffle can be extra hot. If it cools down, it won't shape correctly.
Hold the cone shape for a few seconds until the waffle hardens a bit, then place it on a wire rack to fully cool and harden.
Repeat the process with the rest of the batter and remember, practice makes perfect when it comes to shaping the cones.
